Mythic Operating System

This is a different way of thinking. It’s a mental map used to interact with yourself and your world in a different way, to produce positive results.

Game Model:
Defining reality and identity is the basic game we all play. Other people try to get you to define yours in limiting ways that hold you down while helping them. They do this at the same time trying to keep you unaware of this fact. So being aware of and acknowledging the game is the first step. This gives you back the power over your own life.

You are always defining and redefining your own reality and identity all the time. However, we are constantly bombarded with messages from family, friends, school, media and work about what roles we are expected to play. These messages imply control and limitation comes from outside us. We must agree and go along with the game for it to work on us. When we stop defining personal reality and identity by other people’s standards we can then start creating our own. We have an array of tools to play this game on our own terms.

Technology Model:
Your current mental firmware is composed from all your identifications, associations, expectations, assumptions and beliefs about reality and yourself. This is called the Mythic Operating System or MOS. The self is a fictional myth and thus so are its limitations and problems. If you lost your memory, you would not have any of your current issues or limits. Thus you would be freer then you are now. It is only our subconsciously programmed ideas about who we are and how reality works that keeps us from doing or becoming what we would like. The process can be thought of as discovering the version of your current firmware. Testing it for bugs and then patching or updating the areas that are no longer working.

Updating your Firmware:
Our first task is to map out our current set of beliefs about reality and self. To speed up this process I’ve created a mapping tool. This is a series of questions that help you create a list of what your MOS is made of and where it came from. This map can be as general or detailed as you like. Once a functional MOS map is created only then can we move into the debugging stage.

Debugging:
This can take a bit of time. As we are testing each part of our MOS to see if it works for us in defining a reality and identity that we like or does it cause us problems. Using a small notebook we make a copy of our current MOS map. Then we watch our thoughts, habits and reactions to daily life, without judgment, for 30 days. Be sure to record the results in your notebook. Referring back to our MOS map we can now more accurately debug our MOS and update our firmware. An example of positive firmware MOS Map is provided below. This can be thought of as a general patch for your MOS.

[MOS Firmware 001]

* I am self-contained and take care of my needs first
* The only limits in life are those I accept
* There is more than enough of everything for everyone
* Other people are guests in my reality
* I define my reality and myself based on what works for me
* I live up to my own expectations
* I respect and accept myself as I am
* I have a healthy sense of humor and can laugh at myself
* I will never tolerate disrespect of myself, my property or my time
* I never waste my valuable time with needy, clingy people or users
* I always have something positive to do

Once we replace the defective parts of our MOS firmware with more functional instructions, we test it again. We test it by doing things our defective firmware would never allow. If our update was successful we will feel good about moving into previously avoided areas. If not then more debugging is needed.

Custom Tools:
What if the example firmware doesn’t meet your needs? Then you can use custom tools to create your own based on what works for you. The custom tools are listed below with brief descriptions:

1. MOS Map – A set of questions used to map current assumptions, expectations, perceived limits and beliefs.
2. Debugging Notebook – Used to record thoughts, actions and reactions to daily life for 30 days.
3. Rebooting Meditation – Used to clear the mind of all thoughts and return to a more clear state.
4. Thought stream analyzer – Watching thoughts throughout the day and observing the mental traffic as it is.
5. Frame Redefinition – Being aware of the frame you’re using and the frame others are attempting to use on you.
6. Results Filter – Simple practical actions that test to see what works and what doesn’t.
7. Intrusion Detector – Being aware that everything coming from outside is opinion and could be false.
8. Firmware firewall – A mental filter for all incoming information and experience.

This is a brief overview of the system.
This system was created and is owned by Michael Douglas.
